Where does tourism and religious practice overlap?
As
part of the tourism industry, contemporary sacred spaces can host not only
visitors seeking spiritual connection, but also function as historical centers
or tourist attractions that act as multivalent symbols for competing narratives
about history, identity, and religious practice. The multiple audiences and
multiplicity of experience ascribed to these sites requires us to take a broad
approach to considering not only their religious uses, but
as hubs where tourists, visitors, pilgrims, and locals interact
